OH HELL NO

Monsters? Idiots?

I thought it was bad enough they let me near a microphone.

A-ha, Master Cylinder is here, status, just ate, hair horn, wind blown.  So this is blogging, bear with me this the first time I’ve had one of these, I know right, way out of touch, anyhoo, I thought I should take a moment to introduce myself.  Name is MC, I love many different things such as cooking out, cocktails, comic books, sports, pro-wrestling, been watching since 85ish, movies, various TV shows, politics, music and dancing, and general buffoonery.  Throughout this time I hope to share various recipes, thoughts, opinions and ideas such as the best way to mix a drink, if Obama really wants the stimulus bill pass just rename it “The War on Iran”, or “Power Girl, Is too Much ever Enough”, you know just some of the things that man has been asking since whenever, but more on all that later.

I’d like to close on a pseudo serious note. Real quick I would like to thank all the folks at the llano idea for keeping the spirit of KTXT alive and kicking, my co-hosts for giving me the opportunity to join in on the nerdery, to Comic shop Bob and the good people at Star Comics, located on 34th and Ave.U for those in the Hub City, for feeding my ink and paper addiction and of course Hostess Fruit Pies for all the real fruit filling and tender golden flaky crust.  Thanks and remember to let your freak flag fly

Movie Review: Corlaine

This past weekend I was awoken at 4 am, shoved into a rather large box, and shipped to College Station Hell. I still have no idea why this happened and for some reason my ass hurts but I’m back and I digress from my point.
Lucky for me in Hell there is a movie theater. And at that movie theater Coraline was playing. I guess Satan was doing research on little girls’ nightmares.

coraline
Coraline is based off the same titled children’s book by Neil Gaiman (Sandman, Good Omens, American Gods). Neil Gaiman is a common name in comics because of his Sandman series, a surreal series about the Lord of Dreams, and has strong ties in gothic fiction.
The big talk about this movie is the use of 3D and stop motion animation.

It’s all good until they’re taken over by Norman Osborn’s capybara

lockpa001_cov NOT A HOAX! NOT A DREAM!

The only news worth caring about so far out of NYCC is Marvel’s “Lockjaw and the Pet Avengers,” using the only adjective for that word that completely short-circuits any of my ability to be critical.

So far all we know is that it will be written by Chris Eliopolous (of Franklin Richards and Mini-Marvels fame) and drawn by Ed Guerra. The roster will include Locks Jaw and Heed, an apparently new Frog Thor, Redwing, Zabu, Aunt may’s dog (does she have a dog?), and that cat, who is called Hairball. Did he used to be in Power Pack or something? I don’t know who that is.

Considering that Lockheed is the only one of these characters who can talk, (Well, maybe the frog. Frog Thor! Have you gotten over it yet? I don’t think I ever will) (Yes, Lockheed can talk. Warren Ellis said so.) dialogue options might be limited, but I imagine they’ll find some way. Isn’t Redwing telepathic? So he can network everyone up and we’ll get to see how the food chain really rolls here. But I would think it goes (ascending order):

Redwing –> Hairball –> the dog –> Zabu –> Lockheed –>Lockjaw —————>Mjolnir-wielding frog.

Edit: Hairball is pretty clearly the kitty version of Speedball, now Penance. Which is kind of a hilarious commentary on that character, now.

el Diablo Robotico has no need for puny post titles!

Aaaaaaaaaand we’re back!  el Diablo Robotico, your very own mystery date, finally has somewehre to post his pretty pretty words.  It’s been awhile and I know you’re all anxious to read what I thought about this weeks stack of new comics, so I’ll just jump right in rather than blather on and on about how much I’ve missed you all (except those that read my reviews on my MySpace).

So – Straight on into the comics, like a good little soldier…

COMIC BOOK COMICS 3 – Fred Van Lente and Ryan Dunlavey’s stroll down memory lane of comic book history touches on Frederic Wertham’s anti-comics crusade, the birth of the Comics Code Authority, plagiarizing Pop artists and more.  As always in a book by this duo the historical info is rich and entertaining. I can’t recommend this one enough.  BUENO EXCELLENTE!
