This is a very exciting time for us here at The Llano Idea. We have been working hard on this blog, programming, designing a new site, and labeling music, BUT we are also working on something else for the people. As you may know spring break is approaching ,which means that SXSW is creeping right behind it. This year before you head out for your spring break vacation, stick around town until Monday March 16th so you can head over to Bash Riprock’s II (located on I-27 and 19th street) because The Llano Idea presents The First Annual South By South Plains. This year we have very special guests No Age, The Mae Shi, and The Goat.

No Age is a L. A. noise punk/pop duo. Their latest release Nouns, out through Sub Pop, has been on a constant loop in my little mp3 player. It’s almost impossible to stop listening to. In case you weren’t here last time when No Age graced Lubbock with an appearance, YOU DO NOT WANT TO MISS THIS ONE. They put on one of the most amazing sets I have seen them perform. People were sweaty, pushing, crowd surfin’, breaking bottles, and that was only after the second song. Their positive punk outlook on life, speaks through their songs and seeped through those who attended that night. It was one of the most amazing times of my life here in Lubbock. If you don’t believe me, look at the picture above taken from behind drummer Dean Spunt at that very same show.
That is only the beginning. Also coming is L.A. noise-pop band The Mae Shi. They too have had a great year, with their 2008 release HLLLYH . These dudes have been constantly touring with the likes of Deerhoof, Xiu Xiu, and even The Mountain Goats. I saw these guys last year at SXSW; it was their last performance of 15 epic shows in only three days. It was the most hyperactive spazztastic show I saw last year. If that was them sleep deprived and all beat up, imagine them here in the Hub City fully rested and ready to rock.

Also playing will be The Goat, which features badass skateboarder Andrew Reynolds on guitar. With obvious influences from the Dead Milkmen to the Dead Kennedy’s (pretty much everything and anything Dead) and a constant rotating cast of individuals, this is probably going to be one of the most unique punk shows you will go to all year.
Good times are ahead for us here in Lubbock (Woovenhand, Treasure Mammal, HEALTH, and the upcoming spectacle above), so be sure to check back on our blog for updates on where to get tickets and even more info.
